Storm-hit family gets building materials to repair house

KUALA LUMPUR (Jan 12, 2012): Pandan MP Dato’ Sri Ong Tee Keat today donated building materials to repair the house that was badly damaged by a freak storm in Kampung Pandan Dalam on Oct 28.
Ong made the presentation to villagers Mohd Hassan Abdul Jalil, 49, and his wife Rohaya Nordin, 48, who lived in the wooden house with five children.

After inspecting the preparations for the repairs, Ong also had an hour-long chat with the villagers at a nearby tea restaurant.

On Oct 28, Ong had also made an on-the-spot cash aid to 17 families shaken by a freak storm.
The strong winds lashed the heritage Malay village for about two hours (from 4pm to 6pm), ripping off parts of the zinc roofs of the wooden houses.

After a quick inspection on the damage to the houses, Ong gave RM300 immediate relief to each of the 17 storm-hit families to have their roofs repaired.

Ong told reporters at the scene: “Thank God no one was injured by the freak storm nor any life lost. It is only right for me, as their MP, to extend immediate financial aid to have the roofs repaired immediately.

“Kampung Pandan Dalam is the second biggest heritage Malay village in the vicinity of Kuala Lumpur, after Kampung Baru. We must, therefore, help to cherish the heritage village that belongs to Malaysians.”
