I appreciate the concern for MCA by Prime Minister and Barisan Nasional (BN) Chairman, Dato’ Seri Najib Tun Razak when he was in Hua Hin, Thailand recently. He mentioned that he was pleased that Dato’ Seri Dr. Chua Soi Lek and I have taken his advice to come together quickly to resolve our issues and unite the Party.
This cannot be interpreted as an intervention into MCA’s internal Party matters. There is always room for advice, suggestions and proposals from all quarters within and outside the party, so long as they are constructive and are given with a sincere heart.
Dato’ Seri Najib as the head of the BN family has all the more reasons to be concerned about the situation within one of its major component parties. A strong party that is able to serve all Malaysians under the 1Malaysia concept remains one of the key focuses of BN component parties.
On the same note, I must thank Dato’ Seri Dr. Chua for publicly saying that he believed in my sincerity in working together with him for the greater good of the Party. The greater unity plan actually reflects our shared ability to put the past behind us and our shared vision to stride forward confidently as a team.
I am confident Dato’ Seri Dr. Chua as well as other like-minded MCA leaders have the commitment to make the unity plan work, to bring the Party out of the woods and to greater heights.

I pay my respects to both you and Dr Chua equally on this regard. I think you are both very courageous. The most important thing is that both of you are able to turn the negative impacts into positive movements. I cannot understand why some of our fellow brothers and sisters in Malaysia cannot accept this concept. Is it because they are, as the Chinese saying goes, ‘見不得人好的心態’?
I think Alan Cohen’s quote is very suitable for the MCA’s present situation:
“It takes a lot of courage to release the familiar and seemingly secure, to embrace the new. But there is no real security in what is no longer meaningful. There is more security in the adventurous and exciting, for in movement there is life, and in change there is power”
