I appreciate and thank the Prime Minister for his advice to
the MCA yesterday. I agree that the Party must not only find a legal solution, but
also a moral and political solution, to the current problems.
In fact, during the MIC general assembly recently, I personally heard the PM
say during the opening address that there is no point for leaders to be
popular within the Party but could not get the support outside. The PM's
popular slogan is "People First", not "Party First".
Because MCA adheres to the politically and morally correct
way of solving problems, I took it upon myself to call for another EGM to resolve
the current impasse. The general assembly is the supreme voice of the Party.
All top political leaders are elected by their respective
general assemblies. This is not something
exclusive to MCA.
To me, it is morally wrong and irresponsible to leave the Party in a state of
utter disarray. This is especially so when the 10/10 EGM produced an
inconclusive verdict.
It is also morally wrong to hijack the original intention of the EGM just so
certain quarters can get shortcuts to political elevations in their careers.
The Party needs leaders with a mandate from the general assembly to win back
public support in time for the next general election.
It is also immoral for certain people to say that they want to do certain
things, but when it comes to the crunch, they never did.
Those who know me long enough understands that I've always been guided by
morality and doing things that are correct politically. I assure these people
that I have not changed.

I would like to congratulate you for making a wise decision to stay on. I am convinced that you stay on not because you are power crazy but because you genuinely want to reform the party and to right the wrong in our society.
However, my greatest fear is that should there be a fresh party poll the majority of the present group of central delegates will cast their votes against you and the party will lose the service of a capable and courageous leader.
I believe that the majority of the Chinese community support you as the president of MCA and for that matter even the majority of the ordinary MCA members(ie about 1 million minus the 2 thousand plus delegates) also support you.But unfortunately they are not central delegates and therefore are unable to cast their votes in your favour.
In my opinion, the most equitable and democratic way, to settle the current leadership tussle is to have party poll across the board starting at the branch, then division level and followed by election of the central delegates who will then choose the leaders at the General Assembly. It may be time consuming and costly but I am convinced it is worth the trouble because the losers will not have any more reasons to complain about as the democratic process is inclusive of the people who matter most ie the ordinary members of the party.
If need be, next month's AGM can be postponed to accommodate the series of party wide elections, to ultimately choose the central delegates for the Annual General Assembly.
I look forward to a strong and united MCA with you at the helm, continuing to fight for justice and fairplay and against corruption and extremism
