Today, many newspapers and Internet portals have highlighted the Deputy Prime Minister's remarks which mentioned my name. I have clarified my stance on the subject matter in a blog posting yesterday.

I wish to reiterate that in the spirit of democracy and freedom of speech, everyone is entitled to his or her own views. I agree that Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin has a right to speak his mind on why he thinks the Barisan Nasional was defeated in the two recent by-elections. That doesn't mean that I agree with his statement that the Chinese are ungrateful. To me, it is the BN's obligation to help the people, whether during campaigning period or otherwise. As I said in my blog posting yesterday, the issue of being grateful does not arise at all.

I will not allow myself to fall into the trap set by individuals bent on using me to pit a particular community against certain national leaders. My main priority now is to win back the peoples' support for the Barisan Nasional come the next general election. Such support will not come just because we dish out election goodies at the eleventh hour, but rather it involves long process of winning back the people's confidence and goodwill.

Good step but stop short.

Dear D. Ong,

It is good you thay you have clarified your earlier statement. You should have earlier make clear concerning your stand that you do not agree with the DPM's statement that the Chinese are ungrateful. However you just stop here.

You should have also done the following:

1. Tell the DPM that his statement involving your alleged statement was not correct.

2. Tell the DPM not to finger-point the Chinese press about the twisting of words and to look down of their command of Malay language. Rather it seemed that the DPM himself is twisting his words and also "boasted" himself of his command of Malay language.

If such unwarranted statement is from the PR leaders you would have hammered them outrightly; calling them racists, liars, hypocrates, arrogant, etc. Even some BN leaders may take court actions against them.

However you tried to "soften or justify or cover-up" the unwarranted statement. Isn't this action a kind of hypocrisy?

You have taken a step forward by clarifying that you do not agree with the DPM's statement. However your hypocrisy pushed you two steps backward.

regards,
ungrateful malaysian....

It is a very sad age for the chinese community in Malaysia, even a person at your position dont dare to challenge the DPM when there is a chance and yet you twist and turn your opinion trying to hide the main agenda and fool the voter. The only different i see in u is you are very good in twisting and turning... No doubt u are a politician but it also spell doom to the people. You can fool everybody but u cant fool yourself. The fact that MCA remain in BN, you have no choice but to remain in UMNO mercy. When UMNO ask you to jump, you will ask "how high". Then come back and explain to the community on your action is totally justifiable as everybody have a freedom of speech.... How sad........

ah, thank god you clarified, OTK. for a while, i thot you had turned to the Dark Side.

unlike some Pakatan people. when PAS talked about setting up a state where they chop your hands and stone you, DAP just keep quiet. only people like Karpal spoke up. sheeeer hypocricy.

It is clear that you are taking a very safe stance but unfortunately it also shows that you do not have the courage to speak up when it is required.

Allowing another person to use your name when you disagree is not wrong, but not good enough.
MCA has been too cautious, it is time to step up to the plate.

By the way, the RSS feeds on your site don't work.
You should get someone to look at it. A lot of people I know get updates from RSS feeds.
What do you mean by grateful?
written by khang weei, April 16, 2009
This is not a matter of grateful or not, with much respect to the DPM, he has understood the whole issue wrongly!! This is an issue of whether BN is being righteous to Malaysians and NOT whether Malaysians are grateful to them. It's simple. For e.g. you are a parent. You employed a tuition teacher to teach your son. The tuition teacher is smart and your son got good results. Although you are the one who pay salary to the teacher and although you are the boss, I'm sure you will still be grateful for that matter. However, you found out that the same teacher also abuses your son or rape him! You have to take action against that teacher, no matter whether you were grateful to that teacher for helping your son obtaining good results or not. And, of course, you will want to get a new teacher to teach your son, hoping that the new teacher will not abuse or rape him! Similarly, the taxpayers are the parents who pay the government (BN) their salary to do a good job for us. Although the taxpayers are the BOSS, I'm sure all taxpayers are grateful to BN for doing a good job in some aspects. However, we have seen the corruption and lack of transparency in BN. We want change. So, we have no choice but to vote for a new government.

Simple analogy. Please don't tell me that you don't get me. I'll be too disappointed in your leadership skills.
One Malaysia.

Dear Datuk,

Before reading your article in this blog, I have just completed Datuk Seri Najib's blog and watched the video of him explaining the virtue of humility.Personally I felt sad after getting to know that a politician could make such remarks upon the Chinese community as to be labelled as being ungrateful.I must stress that we as a citizen of Malaysia be it Chinese, Indians, Malays or even other races such as Bidayuh,Kadazan or others have the rights to choose who we want to be our representative. The Chinese community cannot be considered as being ungrateful. For this matter, I have to concur with what Chief Minister of Penang Mr.Lim Guan Eng had said. He is correct to me when he said that it is the MP or ADUN selected that should be grateful to the rakyat for selecting them instead of us as rakyat that should be feeling grateful. Smear tactics is no longer relevant and if continued would only eradicate our chances of having a successful implementation of our 1 Malaysia plan. Please, let us Malaysians have fate to the promulgated idea of 1 Malaysia.

Satu Negara, Satu impian, Satu Matlamat
One Nation, One Dream, One vision.

Malaysia Tanah Airku. 马来西亚,我的家.

You do not need to "win" back support. At least not the way DAP and PKR is doing - by only learning how to condemn and oppose. Just put the people first and make damn sure that this is transmitted to all MCA reps.
