DAP, not MCA, should boycott KT by-election E-mail

DAP leader Lim Kit Siang has called on the MCA not to campaign in the Kuala Terengganu by-election over my media conference regarding the Port Klang Free Zone on Sunday.

I think this is YB Lim's latest attempt to distract the public from one of the worst crisis facing the Pakatan Rakyat following a recent controversial statement by PAS vice-president Datuk Husam Musa. Husam has only confirmed what the Malaysian public has known about PAS's intention all along - to set up an Islamic State and introduce Hudud laws if it comes to power at the national level.

If DAP feels so strongly about Husam's remarks, the DAP should as a matter of principle, not campaign for PAS' candidate in the Kuala Terengganu poll. Choosing to do so would only mean that the DAP supports public whipping, amputation and stoning for criminal offences under the Hudud laws. Mere words objecting to Husam's statement would not suffice if not demonstrated by action.

We can now clearly see signs of discord in the eight-month-old Pakatan Rakyat, which was formed as a marriage of convenience, whose member parties have starkly different, if not opposing, ideologies.

When YB Lim asked the MCA to boycott the Kuala Terengganu by-election campaigning, it merely shows that the DAP is terrified that the MCA will be able to win over the almost 9,000 Chinese voters in the constituency. The Chinese, who make up around 11 per cent of the voters there, are said to be the key to BN's victory. I give my assurance that the MCA will not only work hard to win over the Chinese voters there but will work with its coalition partners to woo voters of all races there.

That the DAP stalwart has issued two media statements on PKFZ in as many days, regurgitating on the same old issues show that the party has run out of issues for the by-election.

While YB Lim is free to comment, I would like him to be objective as whatever negative perception he is portraying to the public will affect the confidence of the existing and potential investors.

Instead, he should be reminded that Selangor MB Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim had acknowledged that the PKFZ is a viable project.

As to YB Lim's queries on PKFZ, I have answered them as early as last May in Parliament. Back then, I had said that the Government could not acquire the land earmarked for the project because PKFZ is not a public interest project. Besides, a development order has been issued on the plot.

On the letters issued by my predecessors in the Ministry of Transport, I want to repeat that they were not guarantee letters, but merely confirming that there was an agreement entered into between Port Klang Authority and Kuala Dimensi Sdn Bhd.

PriceWaterhouseCoopers is finalising its audit on the corporate governance of PKFZ, among others. I have said that there will be no interference on my part or the Government and I stand by my words. It is unnecessary to jump the gun before the PWC report is released.

I have said this many times before but somehow it did not register with YB Lim who keeps harping on the same issues. I can only conclude that he is full of platitudes.

Dear All,

Once again Malaysians are presented with the situation whereby political parties jostle for popularity by way of a unexpected by-election in Kuala Terengganu. I read that Malaysians will then be witnessing to yet another by-election in Pensiangan, Sabah and Sarawak state election shortly after. These by-elections and state elections will be litmus tests to Barisan Nasional, which suffered the worst debacle in its recorded history in the last general election and Pakatan Rakyat, which will try to convince Malaysians with its Ketuanan Rakyat policy. BN has the media muscles over Pakatan Rakyat and this given advantange would be exploited to the hilt as all the elections are ultimately important to the former in order to gauge its post-308 popularity.

In all fairness, I would say that PR is doing just fine despite the lack of cooperation from the Federal Government. For example, the move by PR-led government in Perak to award freehold grants to dwellers of kampung baru and tersusun is something which they have been pleading, fighting and believing for the past 50 years. What MCA or UMNO unable to deliver, despite numerous or shall I say countless promises to these dwellers for the past 50 years were aptly delivered by PR in just 5 months. In all account, MCA has lost major to PR or DAP on this issue. Regardless of what MCA representatives will say now would mean nothing but just excuses to the dwellers, whom firmly believed that they have been misled, misused and outright cheated by them. Settling and resolving issues brought up or faced by the dwellers of kampung baru was and is something which MCA had championing before in its past and even present manifestos but reality has been presented to us that they were just empty promises.

Many leaders from BN kept saying that DAP, Keadilan and PAS formed a loose fragile pact or marriage of convenience in order to face general elections. However, I certainly believe that the pact which the opposition formed in the name of Pakatan Rakyat has the spirit of consultations and tolerance which is sorely lacking in BN, which is purely dominated by UMNO. Several ex-ministers from MCA and Gerakan (for example Tun Lim Keng Yaik)have publicly commented that they were treated like beggars by UMNO. UMNO hasn't changed much despite after the 308 drubbing. For example, several of its divisional leaders cast MCA aside and disregard the views of even its President himself on many issues. MCA has been very timid in the past 20 years, particularly after 1987 and the departure of Lee Kim Sai and popularity among the Chinese on its image and capability went down the tubes for many years now.

After all these years and the inability of truly fighting the rights of the Chinese, left the reputation of MCA pretty smelly. If we are to meaningfully debate the various issues which MCA were unable to fight for the Chinese, it would be a hell of a long list. MCA has lost its credibility when even the Chinese would rather place their trusts on PAS over them. MCA should mature above tunnel vision politics.

Together For 1 Nation, 1 Malaysia as 1 United Bangsa Malaysia

26 December 2008

To All Malaysians and Datuk Seri Ong Tee Keat,

Our Leaders are definitely NOT COW and may be “sleeping” because of their hands are tied to exercise “TOLERANCE” for greater peace, harmony and stability and to keep their positions. As a result, The Rakyats have been cradled to sleep for 51 years by Malaysians’ Leaders.

The 308 Tsunami does not happen because of 1 Person, Pakatan Rakyats or mere arrogance of BN. It is a pent up frustration over 50 years driven by a more educated population and the economic realities faced by All Malaysians.

Is the devil BN and the angel PR for PR to count the CHICKENS before the EGGS are laid in 1,465 days time? My humble view, is The Rakyats deserved more than politicking by BN and Pakatan Rakyats as to who is The Devil and who is The Deep Blue Sea. At present; Rakyats Malaysia are way off target for the Angel to grace our beloved land, if we allowed our leaders to be not issues focused for 1 United Bangsa Malaysia.

Malaysians Condominium (MC) is in 1 of the 10 Parliamentary Seats in Wilayah Persekutuan Kuala Lumpur. As mentioned previously, MC issues were with full knowledge of The Local Council/COB/MP/Minister since Act 663 is effective from April 2008 and April 2008 is merely 1 month from 308.

To All Malaysians, simple mathematic would give you 90% chance of a Pakatan Rakyat MP not able to solve the issues faced by MC which is also common to all similar strata title properties in Malaysia. Conversely, 1 single BN MP cum The Minister is able to mute the Pakatan MPs. BN is weak without 2/3 majority according to die hard BN supporters but with 90% majority Pakatan Rakyats can not get the Local Authority to enforce the law under Act 663! Do 1 United Bangsa Malaysia give Pakatan Rakyat 100% voice before Change takes place?

Lets not dream a Hollow Malaysians Dream and accept facts as they are and be issues focused for a brighter Malaysia. History tells us that, there is no peaceful transition of political power from 1 ideology to the next. Such smooth transition could only happen if all the issues faced are common to All Malaysians without any leeway for the losing side to create tension and chaos.

MC still have fate in our leaders from BN and Pakatan Rakyat ability to solve the common Rakyats issues faced by all strata title properties because they are the privileged Malaysians’ leaders with authority.

However, MC would not want to just sit back and wait for Change to Happens when Malaysians’ Leaders are ready to serve The Rakyats . MC would also welcome with open arm from any Rakyat Malaysia’s suggestions and assistance for a brighter day.

Thank you.

Note : The Writer is Not a Member of Any Political Party and Write as a regular Rakyat Malaysia

Ah Boy,

You said it, DAP left the previous coalition because of PAS Islamic state stance but take note that all PAS could do was only to talk about it. They do not have the means to do it. When TDM, then the PRIME MINISTER declared M'sia is an Islamic state, did MCA leave BN? Take note its the PRIME MINISTER who said it. Not just any wakil rakyat or politician. Unfortunately MCA did not have the balls even to utter a word.

Dato' OTK,

Re: On PAS

a) PAS has not sidelined &/or marginalised the Chinese & non-Malays in the more than 18 years of governing the Kelantan State.
b) PAS Is governing Kelantan an corruption free state administration
c) PAS is able to issue local business license almost immediately, hassle free, no long waiting tim & no need to pay " Kopi money"
d) Liquors are available in Kelantan State in a more orderly manner. Similar to the USA & Canada, Liquors should be sold in straegic places such as at licensed Liquor stores, a special section of the Hypermarket /Supermarket. Even Brazil is practising this concept of selling Liquors Prohibit youngsters 21 years old & below to buy &/or consume liquors at any restaurants /pubs etc.. Demand ID for those who are suspicious of underage of 21 years & below before they can be served with liquors.

re: On UMNO

i) UMNO continues to rob our nation's resources & wealth of the Rakyat for far too many years
ii) There was an attempted robbery of JIN from the TaxPayers' hard earned money through the federal government funded project.
iii) UMNO has been marginalising the NON Malays & snatching government funded projects for far too many years
iv) Many non Malays who were born from 1957 onwards were victims of the UMNO/BN policies & sidelining & depriving any opportunities from tertiary education in the local Universities which are largely funded by TaxPayers who are predominaly non Malays buiness communities.
v) Large % of Malays Population itself were not the beneficiaries of UMNO /BN Policies. Projects / Contracts continue to be given to the inner circle of the UMNO cronies.
vi) MCA continues to be suppressed, stampeded and oppressed by UMNO in the BN government for far too many years & continues to accept to be a "battered wife" in the UMNO dominated BN coalition

Conclusion:
1) You need to wake up & stand up against the arrogance of UMNO & truly represent those who voted you in as The President of MCA
2) Mobilise your MCA election machinery & campaign the same way that your members campaigned in Permatang Pauh; that is asking Chinese Voters in KT to use their head & vote diligently for the betterment of their future. DONOT vote for UMNO candidate & vote for Pakatan Candidate from PAS for Change. Yes, Chinese Voters in KT can make this CHANGE a reality. A CHANGE of Federal Government that we all can believe in.
3) Work towards joining Pakatan for the next General Election. Enough is Enough. MCA cannot continue to be a battered wife and at the same time boosting around & telling the Rakyat that MCA is the 2nd largest Component Party in BN & 2nd largest Chinese Party in the world !! Yet MCA has no absolute power in the decision making and policy making process in the BN government. Your voice & pinions were not heard for far too many years.

Don forget, get your members to campaign in the KT by election & ensure that UMNO loose. Reducing numbers of UMNO rep in the Parliament is good for MCA & good for the country !!

GOD will reward you if you continue to do the Right Things !

Husam on real concerns
KOTA BARU: Non-Muslims should not be unduly worried about hudud but should instead be more concerned about their social rights that have been denied by the Barisan Nasional government for the past 57 years.

PAS vice-president Datuk Husam Musa said hudud had been proven to be effective in Arab countries that had other races within the communities.

“I do not see why the non-Muslims are so worried about hudud when they should first worry about getting equitable rights in education, commerce and social justice,” he said.

http://thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2008/12/27/nation/2899637&sec=nation

I am so glad that Husam had acknowledged that the social rights of Non-Muslims have been denied but why blamed it on Barisan Nasional government alone? PAS has been an integral part of the Malay society that contributed to the present socio-political situation if not the catalyst and the primary factor that force UMNO to take more extreme stand on racial and religious conflicts arising in our Malaysian multi-racial society. We cannot see the present socio-political situation in isolation. Instead we must look back on our political history and the historical events and developments that lead UMNO astray over the years. One of the primary factor is PAS and it's extremist political posturing to the rural political market leading UMNO on a similar path to appease the political expectations of the rural electorates. If not for PAS, the extremist views will not fester or rankle within UMNO leading to a strong sense of resentment and disunity among the Non-Muslims.

My question would be, if PAS had acknowledged that the Non-Muslims social rights have been denied over the 57 years of Barisan Nasional rule (of which PAS had been a part of BN in the past), what has PAS done or said towards rectifying and contributing our socio-political inequity in Malaysia. PAS HAD BEEN A STRONG ADVOCATE OF THE SAME. PAS has had no track record of wanting and fighting for a more balanced equitable right in their political ceramahs and pursuits both in the legislatives and in public. Instead, PAS had further accentuated and aggravated the inequity by continually emphasizing on the religious divide besides the racial divide. If you go through PAS archives, you would have concluded that a lot of the racial-religious fervour had been initiated by PAS and taken up by UMNO subsequently to the detriment of our multi-racial fabric. Much to the chagrin of the Non-Muslims in general, MCA -MIC-GERAKAN has no political will to challenge or question the inequitable encroachment. In this light, I must admit DAP and much later keAdilan had posture otherwise. BUT NOT PAS!!!

continue

SO HUSAM! STOP EXPLOITING THE DISGRUNTLED FEELINGS AND DISSATISFACTION OF THE YOUNGER GENERATION OF NON-MUSLIMS JUST BECAUSE THEY ARE NOT AWARE OF THE WOLF IN SHEEPSKIN FROM YEARS AGO....

IN FACT, PAS WILL NOT ONLY FAIL TO RECTIFY THE INEQUITY BUT FURTHER AGGRAVATE IT. PAS WILL CONTRIBUTE TOWARDS AN ESCALATION AND FURTHER DETERIORATION OF THE NON-MUSLIMS SOCIO-POLITICAL RIGHTS BY INTRODUCING RELIGION TO AN ALREADY BAD ENOUGH RACE BASED SITUATION IN OUR MULTI RACIAL-MULTI RELIGIOUS SOCIETY.

I HAD SAID DAP AND MUCH LATER KEADILAN HAD POSTURE TOWARDS INCULCATING A FAIRER AND MORE BALANCED, EQUITABLE SOCIO-POLITICAL AND ECONOMICAL SITUATION BUT....THE REAL CREDIT SHOULD BE GIVEN TO OUR BAPA MALAYSIA TUNKU ABDUL RAHMAN FOR TAKING A MODERATE APPROACH ON RACIAL ISSUES. NOW, IT IS ABDULLAH BADAWI WHOM HAS CONSISTENTLY SHOWN TOLERANCE AND UPHOLD RELIGIOUS TOLERANCE AND FREEDOM IN MALAYSIA. BUT AGAIN, THE MODERATES WILL FALL....FOR THE EXTREMIST WILL PREVAIL...THOUGH IN MINORITY BUT THEY ARE MORE VOCAL....AND THEY HAVE A STRONGER INTENT.... AND MORE INTENSE IN THEIR POLITICAL FERVOUR!!!!

SO HUSAM ! WALK YOUR TALK! SPELL OUT THE AREAS OF SOCIAL RIGHTS OF NON-MUSLIMS DENIED BY BARISAN NASIONAL AND HOW PAS IS GOING TO RECTIFY THEM, INSTEAD OF HARPING ON THE ALREADY SERIOUS DIVIDE.

AND HUSAM! DON'T TELL US NOT TO BE WORRIED ABOUT HUDUD. WE ARE F****** WORRIED OF THIS DARK CRIMINAL JUSTICE UNKNOWN TO US AND MAYBE TO MANY MUSLIMS TOO.

LASTLY HUSAM! YOU DON'T HAVE TO TELL US TO FIRST WORRY ABOUT GETTING EQUITABLE RIGHTS AND OPPORTUNITIES IN EDUCATION, COMMERCE AND SOCIAL JUSTICE. WE HAVE BEEN WORRIED AND FRUSTRATED FOR UMPTEENTH YEARS AND A FEW DECADES BUT WE HAVE YET TO SEE PAS SHOWN ANY SYMPATHY OR OPPOSE THE INEQUITY OF WHICH HUSAM HAD KNOWN AND IS AMPLY AWARE OF. INSTEAD HE HAD BEEN SILENT FOR SO LONG.....SO STOP PAYING LIP SERVICE NOW, OK!!!!
(HAVE YOU CONVENIENTLY FORGOTTEN ISLAM ADVOCATE FAIRNESS AND JUSTICES TOO. THIS IS VERY BASIC, KAN??? )

OH YEAH! WHAT ABOUT THE CIVIL INJUSTICES CAUSED TO THE FAMILIES WHOM SPOUSE HAD CONVERTED TO ISLAM? NOT ONLY PAS FAILED TO REMEDY IT BUT PAS HAD PUT A STOP TO ALL ATTEMPTED DISCUSSIONS OR FORUMS TO HIGHLIGHT THESE VICTIM'S PLIGHT.

and that is only on civil rights....what if it is criminal law, touching on liberty, severing of limbs, stoning to death and many more barbaric acts....manusia tidak sempurna dan yang lemah akan menimpa siksa!

Dear All,

It appears that "paparazi" had hit the nail at the right place by commenting the inability of BN-led government of awarding freehold titles to dwellers of kampung baru and kampung tersusun during the last 50 years in power. I may be wrong but certainly there will be thousands that would agree with me that BN had always used the renewal of TOL as a bargaining chip to exchange votes from these poor dwellers. They (the dwellers) were always been holding the wrong end of the stick and it was a God-gift to them when Pakatan Rakyat offered them freehold grants after all these years. Quick browse over several blogs suggested that the Perak state government is granting freehold grants covering just about 5,000 acres. I do not think this is extravagant or perhaps reckless on the part of that said state government as the dwellers of these kampungs had been staying there for some good 65 years or more. They have even heavilly invested on properties renovations. By granting them freehold titles will create a sense of security to them whereby there will be a valid commercial tag on their properties.

Why can't MCA agree to that?

Dato' OTK,

a) It is better that MCA work closer with DAP than with UMNO.
b) UMNO has been suppressing MCA & other mosquito parties within BN coalition.
c) What's that to boost around by saying that MCA is the 2nd largest parties within BN coalition where MCA & its members voices were not respcted at all by the sheer arrogance of UMNO ? 51 years of suppression, oppression and marginalisation by UMNO's ruling party at Federal level is enough.
d) Please work harder this time at KT by-election and ensure that your arrogant comrade from UMNO rep looses the KT by election. A member less from UMNO in Parliament is good for MCA and also is good for the country. Carry BN banner but asking Chinese Voters to vote Pakatan for a CHANGE we all can believe in. MCA should not work with DAP and neither should MCA leave Barisan. UMNO had done many not so good things but then again, MCA should stay in Barisan to help change UMNO. TO work with DAP, in my "PERSONAL" opinion, is to work with someone who practices double standards, who only knows how to complain yet not much was really done.

To work with AI of PKR is akin to, in my personal opinion, work with a treacherous and incompetent man who almost brought the country to distruction during the 97-98 economic crisis. To those who had forgotten what happened back then, the then someone in the government had risen bank interest rates and follow all that his American and IMF Master would want him to do... akin to surrendering our country's sovereignty to those big bullies. Mind you all, it was the Barisan National under Mahathir Mohamad that had brought the country out of its woes... and till date, our situation is MUCH better than our other neighbours thanks to the solid foundation, our national hero, has placed together with his behid the scenes' advisors.

I do agree that MCA had made many blunders, but with a new head.... time for people to give him time, to implement his idea and sees if it works. However, working with DAP is a no no and DAP is a sterm out from Singapore's PAP, something which we should not allow them in power on the Federal scale.

MCA is very silent when Dr.M declared Malaysia is an islamic state.MCA votd for the constitution amendments eg like article 121(1a?) that took away rights of non muslim spouse to appear in civil courts when the other spouse converts to Islam. So will you make it right now? No! Cos you MCA are a slave to UMNO and power. You MCA will not do the right thing. So MCA, we know where DAP stands and where PAS stands. What about MCA?

BTW I'm no member of any party and voted for BN until March 08. BN is still arrogant and doesn't do what is best for the country or people eg the case of IJN. Why is the health minister quiet on IJN? Waiting for the master's instructions? smilies/wink.gif

Thomas, of course MCA can only win back the people IN THEIR DREAMS! Today the SUN reported on the FRONT PAGE that the PR gomen in Salangor is terminating a contract into 2030 that robs the rakyat via continuous hikes by SYABAS in water tariffs while it fails to observe a contractual requirement for open tendering in awarding projects. But then what does the STAR do? It does NOT carry this news that would certainly be of interest to the people of Selangor - NOT in the main section and NOT even in the Metro section. And MCA, owners of STAR want to win back Selangor? They want to win back the people of Selangor, the Malays, Chinese and Indians, who BOOTED them out in 308 - with this kind of action of totally avoiding an issue of interest to the rakyat, of DEPRIVING the rakyat of KNOWLEDGE and AWARENESS of what's going on with the rakyat's money? Hahahahahahahar-har-har! How many MCA members in Selangor will certainly vote PR because of this kind of BLATANT LYING? Only ONLY TALK KOK will know! Hahahahahahar-har-har! And MCA members will still trust such a party? Hmmmmmphhhh!
