DAP, not MCA, should boycott KT by-election E-mail

DAP leader Lim Kit Siang has called on the MCA not to campaign in the Kuala Terengganu by-election over my media conference regarding the Port Klang Free Zone on Sunday.

I think this is YB Lim's latest attempt to distract the public from one of the worst crisis facing the Pakatan Rakyat following a recent controversial statement by PAS vice-president Datuk Husam Musa. Husam has only confirmed what the Malaysian public has known about PAS's intention all along - to set up an Islamic State and introduce Hudud laws if it comes to power at the national level.

If DAP feels so strongly about Husam's remarks, the DAP should as a matter of principle, not campaign for PAS' candidate in the Kuala Terengganu poll. Choosing to do so would only mean that the DAP supports public whipping, amputation and stoning for criminal offences under the Hudud laws. Mere words objecting to Husam's statement would not suffice if not demonstrated by action.

We can now clearly see signs of discord in the eight-month-old Pakatan Rakyat, which was formed as a marriage of convenience, whose member parties have starkly different, if not opposing, ideologies.

When YB Lim asked the MCA to boycott the Kuala Terengganu by-election campaigning, it merely shows that the DAP is terrified that the MCA will be able to win over the almost 9,000 Chinese voters in the constituency. The Chinese, who make up around 11 per cent of the voters there, are said to be the key to BN's victory. I give my assurance that the MCA will not only work hard to win over the Chinese voters there but will work with its coalition partners to woo voters of all races there.

That the DAP stalwart has issued two media statements on PKFZ in as many days, regurgitating on the same old issues show that the party has run out of issues for the by-election.

While YB Lim is free to comment, I would like him to be objective as whatever negative perception he is portraying to the public will affect the confidence of the existing and potential investors.

Instead, he should be reminded that Selangor MB Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim had acknowledged that the PKFZ is a viable project.

As to YB Lim's queries on PKFZ, I have answered them as early as last May in Parliament. Back then, I had said that the Government could not acquire the land earmarked for the project because PKFZ is not a public interest project. Besides, a development order has been issued on the plot.

On the letters issued by my predecessors in the Ministry of Transport, I want to repeat that they were not guarantee letters, but merely confirming that there was an agreement entered into between Port Klang Authority and Kuala Dimensi Sdn Bhd.

PriceWaterhouseCoopers is finalising its audit on the corporate governance of PKFZ, among others. I have said that there will be no interference on my part or the Government and I stand by my words. It is unnecessary to jump the gun before the PWC report is released.

I have said this many times before but somehow it did not register with YB Lim who keeps harping on the same issues. I can only conclude that he is full of platitudes.

I suspected it all the while.. and my suspicions are confirmed today that this group of so called MCA Integrity Watch Group are nothing but just a group of dogs funded and backed by you to smear and discredit your duly central-delegates-elected deputy president! No wonder you put on a show when you welcome the setting up of this group and claimed that it is not aligned to you.. you sneaky SOB president. I further suspect that time will prove you to be worse and more slimy than the lost and overstayed president of another component party.

KUALA LUMPUR: A group of MCA members has called on party deputy president Datuk Seri Dr Chua Soi Lek to follow the example set by Chinese educationist Loot Ting Yee who quit all his posts after being accused of sexual harassment.

The MCA Integrity Watch Group stated that they were heartened by the display of personal integrity by Loot, who had made a public apology and quit his positions in the Dong Jiao Zong and Lim Lean Geok Foundation over the accusation

OTK,

Perhaps PWC should publish the report asap. The first part of the two part report shoudl also be made public and transparent.

Disgusted...your comments are truly disgusting. The current crop of MCA leaders in government (exception of Ong Ka Chuan which I don't have any respect for) are trying hard to change way things are done.

OTK did NOT have an existing obligation to investigate into PKFZ. Think about it. If he was protecting his predecessors, he could have just kept quiet and not make so much noise when he became a new minister and continue sweeing the PKFZ issue quietly under the carpet.

The dangerous politicians are those like Chua Soi Lek who was an UMNO runnign dog and did nothing. Now, trying to make comeback after DVD scandal....hahahaha! what a joke. When he was health minister, he chipped away at government healthcare...preferring to enrich private cronies.

Despite what CSL said about ketuanan melayu now...he is the SOB who sold the chinese to umno puteras. Just read here: http://www.utusan.com.my/utusa...=fp_03.htm

HI OTK,
Ever since 308 election, there is alot of questions asked, what had the pakatan rakyat gov did for the 100 days or more. However, I would like to ask aspecially MCA, ever since 308 election, what did the MCA ministers had done other than harping on issues and politicise the people problem ? what you guy had done on ISA ? OSA ? Islamisation of the environment. You talk so much on hudud, do u know why today, my area in a radius of 5 km, had 5 mosque but seldom see muslim around. I am not a muslim but I can tolerate the azan @ 6 am. but where is the place of worship for non muslim ? and why the speaker be allow broadcast speaches in early morning and wt high vol ? Why u keep harping on hudud and yet give permission to UMMO to continuous use islam to fool our Malay bro and sis to vote for them at opportune time.
I went to GH a few times recently wt my mum. No doubt the system had improve(some patient give the thumb up for Dr Chua SL for his great work in changing the GH), in fact it had been nominated as the best Hospital by reader digest reader. However, I notice tht the services had turn bad, u can c it from faces of patients in the outpatient unit. I saw the aircon water dripping at the Medicine collection unit for many months already and worst still, the aircon had been turn off lately. Can I ask Liow TLai as Health minister to go down to the floor and c with his own self the problem face by the ppl, don't just talk so much on protecting the ppl but did nothing.

Richard,

DAP left the BA in 2001 because of Pas' Islamic state. But in 2008, it regrouped again with the same partners under PR, KNOWING FULL WELL that Pas had not changed its stance. If that is not stupid, kindly enlighten me what is?

Dato' Sri...please lead MCA to victory here and return MCA to relevance.
Don't waste time with CSL.
Be fearless and transparent in dealing with PKFZ once and for all. If you intend to protect CKC's ass...you would not have brouht up this scandal int he first place. Now...finish what you've set out to do and you'll gain our trust. TQ
